Preposition কী এবং কেন এত গুরুত্বপূর্ণ?

Preposition হলো সেই শব্দ যা Noun বা Pronoun-এর সাথে বাক্যের অন্য উপাদানের সম্পর্ক স্থাপন করে — সময়, স্থান, দিক, পদ্ধতি ইত্যাদি বোঝায়। ইংরেজিতে মাত্র ১৫০টির মতো Preposition আছে, কিন্তু এদের ব্যবহারে ছোট একটি ভুল পুরো অর্থ বদলে দিতে পারে।

উদাহরণ:

• The book is on the table. → বইটি টেবিলের উপরে (স্পর্শ আছে)।
• The fan is above the table. → ফ্যানটি টেবিলের উপরে (স্পর্শ নেই, উঁচুতে)।
• The boy jumped over the fence. → ছেলেটি বেড়ার উপর দিয়ে লাফ দিল।

প্রতিটি বাক্যে “উপরে” অর্থ থাকলেও Preposition আলাদা, কারণ সম্পর্ক আলাদা।

ON — স্পর্শ বা সংলগ্নতা বোঝায়

ON-এর মূল নিয়ম

On ব্যবহৃত হয় যখন কোনো বস্তু অন্য একটি বস্তুর পৃষ্ঠে সরাসরি স্পর্শ করে থাকে — অর্থাৎ Contact আছে।

OVER-এর মূল নিয়ম

Over তিনটি ভিন্ন অর্থে ব্যবহৃত হয়:

1. Directly Above — সরাসরি মাথার উপরে, স্পর্শ নেই।
2. Covering — কোনো কিছু ঢেকে রাখা।
3. Movement Across — কোনোকিছুর উপর দিয়ে যাওয়া বা ডিঙানো।

ABOVE — উচ্চতর অবস্থান, স্পর্শ নেই, সরাসরি নয়

ABOVE-এর মূল নিয়ম

Above বোঝায় কোনো কিছু অন্য কিছুর চেয়ে উঁচুতে, তবে সরাসরি মাথার উপরে নয় এবং স্পর্শ নেই। এটি Over-এর মতোই মনে হলেও Over কেবল সরাসরি উপরে অবস্থান বোঝায়, আর Above যেকোনো উঁচু অবস্থান বোঝায়।
