ইংরেজি গ্রামারে Clause Identification এমন একটি বিষয় যেখানে BCS, Bank Job এবং University Admission পরীক্ষায় প্রায় প্রতি বছর প্রশ্ন আসে। কিন্তু সমস্যা হলো — সব Clause দেখতে প্রায় একই রকম। “where he lives”, “who you are”, “when you leave” — সবগুলোতেই Subject + Verb আছে। তাহলে সেকেন্ডে কীভাবে বুঝব কোনটি Noun Clause, কোনটি Adjective Clause, আর কোনটি Adverbial Clause?

Clause Identification-এর ৫টি শর্টকাট সূত্র

Technique 1 → Transitive Verb-কে “What?” প্রশ্ন → Noun Clause
Technique 2 → Linking Verb-এর পরে Complement → Noun Clause
Technique 3 → Noun-এর পরে Clause → Adjective Clause
Technique 4 → Antecedent আছে কি? → Adjective Clause, না থাকলে Noun Clause
Technique 5 → Verb-কে Where/When/Why/How → Adverbial Clause

Technique 1 — Noun Clause via Transitive Verb

মূল নিয়ম

Transitive Verb-কে “What?” বা “Whom?” প্রশ্ন করলে যে Clause উত্তর আসে, সেটি Noun Clause।

কারণ Transitive Verb-এর Object প্রয়োজন, এবং সেই Object যদি একটি Clause হয়, সেটি Noun Clause।

৮+ বাস্তব উদাহরণ

    সে আমাকে জিজ্ঞেস করল তুমি কে।

Technique 2 — Noun Clause as Subjective Complement

মূল নিয়ম

Linking Verb (is, was, are, were, seems, becomes)-এর পরে Clause বসলে এবং সেটি Subject-এর Complement হয়, তখন সেটি Noun Clause।

মনে রাখার সূত্র:

Subject + Linking Verb + Clause (Noun Clause)

H2: Transitive and Intransitive Verb — মূল ধারণা

Verb কী?

Verb (ক্রিয়া) হলো সেই শব্দ যা কোনো কাজ, অবস্থা বা ঘটনা বোঝায়। যেমন — read, write, laugh, sleep, run, go, eat।

Verb মূলত দুই ধরনের:

  1. Transitive Verb (সকর্মক ক্রিয়া) — Object প্রয়োজন
  2. Intransitive Verb (অকর্মক ক্রিয়া) — Object লাগে না

Object চেনার সহজ নিয়ম

Formula:

Verb + “What?” বা “Whom?” → উত্তর পেলে = Object

উদাহরণ:

  • Rakit reads magazines. → Rakit reads what? → Magazines (Object ✅)
  • She loves her mother. → She loves whom? → Her mother (Object ✅)

যদি What? / Whom? দিয়ে উত্তর না পাওয়া যায়, তাহলে সেই Verb-টি Intransitive।

কখন Transitive, কখন Intransitive? — সহজ ৪টি প্রশ্ন

প্রশ্ন ১: Verb-কে “What?” বা “Whom?” দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর পাওয়া যায় কি?

  • হ্যাঁ → Transitive Verb
  • না → প্রশ্ন ২

প্রশ্ন ২: Verb-কে “Where?”, “When?”, “How?”, বা “Why?” দিয়ে প্রশ্ন করলে উত্তর পাওয়া যায় কি?

  • হ্যাঁ → উত্তরটি Adverb → Intransitive Verb

প্রশ্ন ৩: বাক্যটি কি Object ছাড়া অসম্পূর্ণ শোনায়?

  • হ্যাঁ → Transitive
  • না, সম্পূর্ণ → Intransitive

প্রশ্ন ৪: Verb-এর পরে যদি কিছু থাকে — সেটি Noun না Adverb?

  • Noun (Object) → Transitive
  • Adverb (কোথায়/কখন/কীভাবে) → Intransitive

একই Verb — দুই ভূমিকা

কিছু Verb আছে যেগুলো Transitive এবং Intransitive উভয় হিসেবেই কাজ করতে পারে — নির্ভর করে Object আছে কি না।

  • He reads books. (Transitive — object আছে)
  • He reads slowly. (Intransitive — Object নেই, slowly = Adverb)
  • She sings a song. (Transitive)
  • She sings beautifully. (Intransitive)
  • The child broke the glass. (Transitive)
  • The glass broke. (Intransitive)

Common Mistakes — যেখানে শিক্ষার্থীরা ভুল করে

❌ ভুল ১: Adverb-কে Object ভাবা

  • ভুল: He ran fast — এখানে “fast” Object।
  • সঠিক: He ran fast — এখানে “fast” Adverb (কীভাবে? দ্রুত)। “ran” → Intransitive।

❌ ভুল ২: Object না থাকা Verb-কে Transitive ভাবা

  • ভুল: She laughs — এখানে “laughs” Transitive।
  • সঠিক: She laughs — এখানে “laughs” Intransitive (Object নেই)।

❌ ভুল ৩: Preposition-এর পরে Noun-কে Object ভাবা

  • ভুল: She went to the market — এখানে “market” Object।
  • সঠিক: “to the market” Prepositional Phrase = Adverb। “went” → Intransitive।

❌ ভুল ৪: সময়/স্থানকে Object ভাবা

  • ভুল: He slept at night — “night” Object।
  • সঠিক: “at night” Adverbial Phrase। “slept” → Intransitive।

❌ ভুল ৫: “What” প্রশ্নে Adverb উত্তরকে Object ভাবা

  • ভুল: “He runs fast” → “He runs what? fast” → Object।
  • সঠিক: “How does he run? fast” → Adverb।

The book was read by Rahim. (Transitive ✅)
  • ভুল: The baby was laughed. ❌ (Intransitive)

❌ ভুল ৮: “He was laughed at” — এই ধরনের বাক্য ভুল বোঝা

  • সঠিক: এখানে “laugh” Prepositional Verb হিসেবে ব্যবহৃত — Passive হয়ে “laughed at” হয়েছে।
