1. ভূমিকা (Introduction)

প্রিয় শিক্ষার্থী, আজ আমরা ইংরেজি ব্যাকরণের খুব দরকারি একটি বিষয় শিখব—Direct/Indirect Speech (Narration)। Narration মানে কারো কথা তুলে ধরা। আমরা যখন কারো কথা হুবহু quote করি, তখন সেটা Direct Speech। আর যখন নিজের ভাষায় বর্ণনা করি, তখন সেটা Indirect Speech। যেমন:

• Direct: He said, “I am happy.” – সে বলল, “আমি খুশি।”
• Indirect: He said that he was happy. – সে বলল যে সে খুশি।

3. Direct ও Indirect Speech কী? (What are Direct and Indirect Speech?)

Direct Speech হলো কারো কথা হুবহু quotation mark (“…”)-এর ভিতরে লেখা।
Indirect Speech হলো সেই কথা নিজের ভাষায় বলা, quotation mark ছাড়া। সাধারণত that যোগ হয় এবং pronoun/tense পরিবর্তন হয়।

Important:

• Direct Speech-এ reporting verb (said) + comma + quotation marks।
• Indirect Speech-এ reporting verb + that + reported speech (পরিবর্তিত)।
• Tense সাধারণত এক ধাপ পিছিয়ে যায়।

4. Narration-এর নিয়ম (Rules of Narration)

Rule 1: Pronoun পরিবর্তন

Rule 2: Tense পরিবর্তন (backshift)

Can → Could	She said, “I can swim.” → She said that she could swim.

Note: Universal truth-এর ক্ষেত্রে tense বদলায় না।
He said, “The sun rises in the east.” → He said that the sun rises in the east.

Rule 3: Time/Place Word পরিবর্তন

Rule 4: Interrogative Sentence-এর Narration

Yes/No Question:

Rule 5: Imperative Sentence-এর Narration
