- Clause = Subject + Finite Verb সমন্বিত শব্দগুচ্ছ
- Simple Sentence = ১টি Principal Clause
- Complex Sentence = ১টি Principal + ১+টি Subordinate Clause
- Compound Sentence = ২+টি Principal Clause (Co-ordinate)

Clause কী? — মূল ধারণা
Clause-এর সংজ্ঞা
Clause = শব্দের এমন একটি দল (Group of Words) যেখানে —
- একটি Subject থাকে
- একটি Finite Verb থাকে
- এবং এটি একটি বড় বাক্যের অংশ হিসেবে কাজ করে
মনে রাখার সূত্র:
Finite Verb নেই = Phrase
Finite Verb আছে = Clause
Finite Verb কী?
Finite Verb = যে Verb Tense, Person এবং Number পরিবর্তনের সাথে সাথে নিজের রূপ পরিবর্তন করে।
| Base Form | Finite Forms (Subject/Tense অনুযায়ী) |
|---|---|
| write | write · writes · wrote · am writing · has written |
| go | go · goes · went · is going · has gone |
| be | am · is · are · was · were · been |
উদাহরণ:
- Rahim writes a letter. (Present, 3rd Person Singular)
- They wrote a letter. (Past, Plural)
Clause-এর ৩টি প্রধান প্রকার
১. Principal Clause (Independent Clause)
Principal Clause = যে Clause-এ Subject এবং Finite Verb থাকে এবং যা নিজে নিজেই সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে — অন্য কোনো Clause-এর উপর নির্ভর করতে হয় না।
উদাহরণ:
- I bought a book. = Principal Clause (Independent)
আরও উদাহরণ:
- Rahim goes to school every day. = Principal Clause
- She sang a beautiful song. = Principal Clause
- The meeting started at 10 AM. = Principal Clause
২. Subordinate Clause (Dependent Clause)
Subordinate Clause = যে Clause-এ Subject এবং Finite Verb থাকা সত্ত্বেও নিজে নিজে সম্পূর্ণ অর্থ প্রকাশ করতে পারে না — Principal Clause-এর উপর নির্ভর করতে হয়।
Subordinate Clause সাধারণত শুরু হয় Connector দিয়ে — which, when, where, who, whom, whose, that, what, although, because, if, since, as soon as, so that ইত্যাদি।
উদাহরণ:
- …which I read regularly = Subordinate Clause (একা দাঁড়াতে পারে না)
- …when the bell rang = Subordinate Clause
- …who came yesterday = Subordinate Clause
- …because he was late = Subordinate Clause
৩. Co-ordinate Clause
Co-ordinate Clause = যখন দুটি Principal (Independent) Clause Coordinating Conjunction (and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor)-এর মাধ্যমে যুক্ত হয়, তখন প্রতিটিকে Co-ordinate Clause বলা হয়।
উদাহরণ:
- I bought a book, and I read the book.
→ “I bought a book” = Co-ordinate Clause 1
→ “I read the book” = Co-ordinate Clause 2
আরও উদাহরণ:
- She sang, and the audience clapped. = ২টি Co-ordinate Clause
- He tried, but he failed. = ২টি Co-ordinate Clause
- Study hard, or you will fail. = ২টি Co-ordinate Clause

Compound Sentence = যে বাক্যে দুটি বা ততোধিক Principal (Co-ordinate) Clause Coordinating Conjunction (and, but, or, so, yet, for, nor)-এর মাধ্যমে যুক্ত থাকে।
Structure: Principal Clause 1 + Conjunction + Principal Clause 2
