ইংরেজি লেখার জগতে একটা স্পষ্ট বিভাজন আছে—Informal Writing (অনানুষ্ঠানিক লেখা) আর Formal Writing (আনুষ্ঠানিক লেখা)। বন্ধুকে ই-মেইল, চ্যাট, বা ব্যক্তিগত ডায়েরিতে Informal style চললেও, যখনই আপনি একাডেমিক Essay, রিসার্চ পেপার বা বিজনেস লেটার লিখবেন, তখন প্রয়োজন হবে Formal Style। এই পোস্টে আমরা চারটি গুরুত্বপূর্ণ বিষয় শিখব যা আপনাকে Formal Writing-এ মাস্টার বানাবে—সঙ্গে পুরোটাই ভিডিও থেকে আলাদা, ইউনিক উদাহরণ সহ।
১. Contractions (সংকোচন) বাদ দিন
Contraction হলো দুটি শব্দের সংক্ষিপ্ত রূপ, যেখানে apostrophe (‘) ব্যবহার করে অক্ষর বাদ দেওয়া হয়। যেমন: don’t, can’t, won’t, shouldn’t, I’m, it’s। এগুলো Informal। Formal লেখায় এদের ভেঙে পুরো শব্দ লিখতে হবে।
ভুল (Informal):
Students shouldn’t rely solely on AI tools for homework.
বাংলা: শিক্ষার্থীদের কেবল হোমওয়ার্কের জন্য এআই টুলসের ওপর নির্ভর করা উচিত নয়।
সঠিক (Formal):
Students should not rely solely on AI tools for homework.
বাংলা: (একই অর্থ, তবে সম্পূর্ণ রূপ)

২. Personal Pronouns (I, We, You) পরিহার করুন
একাডেমিক লেখায় ব্যক্তিগত মতামত দেওয়া নিষেধ নয়, তবে সরাসরি “I think”, “We should”, “You must” লেখা খুব Informal শোনায়। বরং impersonal বা প্যাসিভ গঠনে বক্তব্য দিন।
ভুল (Informal):
We must protect endangered animals to maintain biodiversity.
বাংলা: জীববৈচিত্র্য রক্ষায় আমাদের বিপন্ন প্রাণীদের রক্ষা করতে হবে।
সঠিক (Formal):
Protecting endangered animals is essential to maintain biodiversity.
বাংলা: জীববৈচিত্র্য বজায় রাখতে বিপন্ন প্রাণীদের রক্ষা করা অপরিহার্য।

৩. Colloquialisms / Slang (কথ্যভাষা ও অশিষ্ট শব্দ) এড়িয়ে চলুন
“gonna”, “wanna”, “loads of”, “kids”, “really bad”—এসব প্রাত্যহিক কথার শব্দ। এদের বদলে Formal equivalent ব্যবহার করুন।
ভুল (Informal):
The new tax rule is kind of unfair to small businesses.
বাংলা: নতুন কর নিয়মটি ছোট ব্যবসার জন্য একটু অন্যায্য।
সঠিক (Formal):
The new tax regulation appears unfair to small enterprises.
বাংলা: নতুন কর বিধিটি ছোট উদ্যোগের জন্য অন্যায্য প্রতীয়মান হয়।

৪. Complex Sentences (জটিল বাক্য) ব্যবহার করুন
Formal writing-এ ছোট ছোট বাক্যের বদলে বিভিন্ন clause যুক্ত করে আরও complex, compound, বা compound-complex sentence ব্যবহার করবেন। এটি আপনার ভাষার পরিণতি ও যুক্তির গভীরতা দেখায়।
দুটি সরল বাক্য (Informal style):
Plastic bags harm the environment. They take hundreds of years to decompose.
বাংলা: প্লাস্টিক ব্যাগ পরিবেশের ক্ষতি করে। এগুলো পচতে শত শত বছর নেয়।
Combined into a formal sentence (Complex):
Plastic bags harm the environment because they take hundreds of years to decompose.
বাংলা: প্লাস্টিক ব্যাগ পরিবেশের ক্ষতি করে কারণ এগুলো পচতে শত শত বছর নেয়।
আরও উন্নত (Compound with semicolon):

Formal Writing কঠিন কিছু নয়—এটি অভ্যাসের ব্যাপার। Contractions বাদ দেওয়া, I/we/you-এর বদলে impersonal sentence গঠন, সাবলীল colloquialism এড়িয়ে সঠিক vocabulary নির্বাচন, আর বাক্যগুলোকে logically complex করে তোলাই মূল চাবিকাঠি। আজই একটি পুরোনো ইমেইল বা প্যারাগ্রাফ তুলে সেটিকে Formal style-এ পুনর্লিখন করুন। তাতেই দেখবেন আপনার লেখার মান কয়েক ধাপ এগিয়ে যাবে।
