  • Sleep (ঘুমানো): I sleep. – আমি ঘুমাই।
    (Passive করা যাবে না, কারণ “sleep”-এর কোনো Object নেই।)
  • Go (যাওয়া): She goes to school. – সে স্কুলে যায়।
    (এখানে “to school” Object নয়, এটি একটি Prepositional Phrase।)

এই ক্লাসে আমরা শিখব কোন Verb গুলো Passive হয় না, কেন হয় না, তাদের ব্যবহার, এবং মজার exercise।

3. What are Verbs That Do Not Take Passive Form?

Verbs that do not take passive form are usually Intransitive Verbs. An intransitive verb does not have a direct object. It shows an action that stays with the subject; the action does not transfer to another person or thing.

Examples:

VerbBangla MeaningExample SentenceBangla Meaning
sleepঘুমানোI sleep.আমি ঘুমাই।
goযাওয়াShe goes.সে যায়।
comeআসাHe comes.সে আসে।
laughহাসাThey laugh.তারা হাসে।
cryকাঁদাThe baby cries.শিশুটি কাঁদে।

Important:

  • Passive Voice needs an Object.
  • Intransitive verbs have no object, so they cannot be changed into passive.

4. Why Can’t Some Verbs Be Passive?

Passive Voice is formed by making the Object of the active sentence into the Subject. If there is no object, there is nothing to move to the subject position.

Active → Passive Rule:

  • Active: Subject + Verb + Object
  • Passive: Object + be + V3 + by + Subject

Example of Transitive Verb (can be passive):

  • Active: I eat rice. (Object = rice)
  • Passive: Rice is eaten by me.

Example of Intransitive Verb (cannot be passive):

  • Active: I sleep. (No object)
  • Passive: ❌ (Cannot be made)

Common Intransitive Verbs:

  • go, come, sleep, wake, die, live, sit, stand, walk, run, laugh, cry, smile, talk, speak, listen, look, wait, stay, happen, exist, fall, rise, swim, fly, etc.
