গত লেকচারে আমরা Present Perfect Continuous Tense-এ প্রশ্ন করা শিখেছি। আজ আমরা শিখব Past Perfect Tense—অর্থাৎ “ঘটার আগে ঘটে যাওয়া অতীত”। যখন দুটি অতীত ঘটনার মধ্যে যেটি আগে ঘটেছে, সেটির জন্য Past Perfect (had + V3) ব্যবহার হয়। যেমন: আমি আসার আগে সে চলে গিয়েছিল → She had left before I came.

1. Past Perfect Tense-এর গঠন (Structure)

এই Tense-এ helping verb হলো had (সকল Subject-এর জন্যই had)।
মূল verb-এর past participle (V3) ব্যবহার করতে হয়। (যেমন: eat → eaten, go → gone, see → seen)

Yes/No Question: Had + Subject + V3 + object?
Wh-Question: Wh-word + had + Subject + V3 + object?
Negative: Subject + had not (hadn’t) + V3 + object.

কখন ব্যবহার হয়:

অতীতে দুটি কাজের মধ্যে আগেরটি: She had left before I reached. (আমি পৌঁছানোর আগে সে চলে গিয়েছিল।)
অতীতের কোনো নির্দিষ্ট সময়ের আগে: By 5 PM, he had already finished. (৫টার মধ্যে সে ইতিমধ্যে শেষ করেছিল।)
পরোক্ষ উক্তি (reported speech): He said he had seen the movie. (সে বলেছিল সে সিনেমাটি দেখেছে।)

3. Past Perfect-এ Wh-How Questions (Had দিয়ে)

3.1 When (কখন) – Past Perfect-এ “When” সরাসরি ব্যবহার না করে “By the time” বা “Before” বেশি মানানসই। আমরা “When” সহ যেসব বাক্যে Past Perfect স্বাভাবিক, সেগুলো দিচ্ছি।
