অর্থ: কোনো প্রতিযোগিতা, আলোচনা বা পরিস্থিতিতে অপর পক্ষের চেয়ে বেশি ক্ষমতা বা সুবিধা থাকা।
Structure: have the upper hand (in something / over someone)
মনে রাখবেন: “upper hand” তাস বা লড়াইয়ের খেলা থেকে এসেছে—যার হাত উপরে থাকে, সে নিয়ন্ত্রণ করে।

অর্থ: কোনো বিষয়ে একই সাথে ইতিবাচক ও নেতিবাচক অনুভূতি থাকা; সম্পূর্ণরূপে খুশি বা সম্পূর্ণরূপে দুঃখিত কোনোটাই না হওয়া।
Structure: have mixed feelings about + noun/gerund
মনে রাখবেন: “mixed feelings” মানে মনের মধ্যে একই সাথে আনন্দ, দুঃখ, উত্তেজনা, ভয় ইত্যাদি মিলেমিশে থাকা।

Structure: call the shots (in something)
মনে রাখবেন: সিনেমা পরিচালক যেমন প্রতিটি দৃশ্যের (“shot”) নির্দেশ দেন, তেমন যিনি “shots call” করেন তিনিই সবকিছু নিয়ন্ত্রণ করেন।

অর্থ: কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত নেওয়ার পর বা কোনো কাজ করার পর নিজেকে প্রশ্ন করা যে সেটি সঠিক ছিল কি না; নিজের বিচারবুদ্ধির ওপর বিশ্বাস হারানো।
Structure: second-guess + oneself (or: second-guess + one’s decision)
মনে রাখবেন: “second-guess” মানে পরে বসে আবার অনুমান করা—প্রথম সিদ্ধান্তকে চ্যালেঞ্জ করা।
